Spelling Shed and Times Table Rockstars

I have set up 16 weeks of Spelling Shed and Times Table Rockstars challenges and these will go live every Monday. I know that we have been working so hard to learn our multiplication tables and it is so important to keep those skills sharp. They will help you in all areas of maths in the future.

Spelling Shed may be a little newer to some of you, but there are challenges on the site and these will revise and consolidate previous learning. There may be one or two new words included each week to keep you on your toes!

All logins are to be found in Reading Diaries, but if you cannot find yours I have copies here with me, so drop me an email if you need help!

Google Classroom login details

I hope this might help and I see that other teachers have place this on their blogs.

To access Google Classroom, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Google home page.
  2. Click on ‘Sign In’ which is in the top right-hand corner.
  3. Sign in with your email (see below for details)
  4. Your password is halterworth (all lower case)
  5. Click the 9 dots (arranged as a square) in the top right-hand corner
  6. Scroll to the bottom and click ‘Classroom’.
  7. On the left-hand side of the page, click on your class name (4VC).
  8. In the centre, at the top of the next page, click ‘Classwork’.
  9. Then click on the week beginning, then the tasks.

Google Classroom login details – firstname.surname@halterworth.hants.sch.uk
(First full name all in lower case)
Password – halterworth
The children who were in school on Wednesday have used Google Classroom, so should have already joined the class, however if not the class code is iupgek5

For those children logging in for the first time, you will see a very short challenge based on our book Sky Chasers. This was written when I was learning how to use the classroom! Feel free to have a go, but beware the questions are not very difficult!

Learning at Home – some information

Good morning and hope that you are all keeping well. I just wanted to take this opportunity to explain how Learning at Home tasks will be set over the coming weeks.

The class blog will be the first place to look for an overview of some weekly challenges and daily tasks. I have set up Google Classroom and I am going to try today to post some challenges on there! This may take me a little while to get the hang of, but I promise that I will get there!

I will shortly post a simple guide on how to access google classroom, especially for those children who were unable to experience this on Wednesday. If you do have any problems, please drop me an email v.collard@halterworth.hants.sch.uk and I will do my very best to solve them!

Just a reminder…

In light of the current situation, I thought it would be useful to remind you that there are a number of online education sites that are available to use at home, should you need them. These include but are not limited to:

  • MyMaths (Logon: halter Password: square)
  • Times Table Rock Stars
  • Spelling Shed
  • topmarks
  • nrich maths

Please note that TT Rock Stars and Spelling Shed work best via Google Chrome.

Don’t forget there are also the links for multiplication games which can be found in Home Learning 30.01.20.

All individual logins for Spelling Shed and TT Rock Stars are stuck in reading diaries.

I have also set up a Google Classroom and every child has their own personal login. The children who were present at school on Wednesday have already experienced this and successfully set up their own account. I have set up accounts for those children who were absent, and further information, including login details will be shared through ParentMail in the coming weeks.

A mystery suitcase

This term we have been learning about Greece and why it is a popular holiday destination.  We started our study by looking at the contents of a mystery suitcase. The objects in the suitcase helped to give us clues about the person and the destination.

We are now researching different features of the country and will be producing a guide to Greece to explain to visitors what they can do on their holidays!

Anglo Saxon runes

Throughout our study of the Anglo Saxons we have learnt that they communicated in a slightly different way to us. They used a system of letters which were called Runes. These letters consisted of straight line strokes as they were often carved into wood. We had a go at creating our own messages, but we were only allowed to use twigs and black paint. It was not as easy as we had expected!
